Many people just need low cost furniture that will hold up for a few years and then get left behind.
IKEA manages to do this with a minimalist modern style that is aesthetically acceptable to most people.
From a functionality viewpoint, their products fit through narrow doors and stairways in older homes where more expensive (higher quality) furniture won’t fit.
- It is not unusual to find IKEA furniture in the basements of $1 million NYC brownstones built over 100 years ago.
- When the only access is a narrow staircase measuring 28 inches in width or less, your furnishing options become very limited.
