Question:
I want a power recliner with a power headrest that has the hi-leg, so that it doesn’t look like basement furniture. I also want it in leather.
How would you rank a Southern Motion vs Hooker vs CR Laine?
I like these three in terms of looks, but really want to get the best quality for my medium price range budget.
Is there anything specifically I should be looking for in one over the other?
I actually have a SM: the mechanism is still working great after 2 1/2 years.
I like the positioning that I can get with the recline and with the power headrest, but the fabric already looks gross and worn way past the length of time I have had it.
Answer:
Among the three brands you listed, I recommend C.R. Laine.
You may also want to check out my article, 18 Best Recliner & Reclining Sofa Brands Made in America. The article reviews and ranks 18 reclining furniture brands. The first 9 brands listed are better quality (& more expensive) than the last 9. Southern Motion is rated #15 in my article.
Hooker also owns Bradington Young, which is similar in style to the Hooker line, but made in the USA.
BY is better quality than Hooker (and more expensive.) It is rated #5 on my list.
C.R. Laine is not listed in the article because all the brands selected make reclining sofas and sectionals.
C.R. Laine does not make reclining sofas or sectionals.
The larger pieces tend to have far more problems than reclining chairs.
C.R. Laine’s regular sofas are excellent quality, so I have no problem recommending their reclining chairs.
Keep in mind that reclining furniture will not last as long as non-reclining furniture made by the same brand.
Friction caused by the constant movement wears out fabric and foam more quickly than on non-motion seating.
