Is Wayfair Furniture Good Quality?

By Jeff Frank

Question:

Is Wayfair furniture good quality? Why or why not?

Answer:

Wayfair is an online furniture retailer that carries good, average and poor quality furniture products.

Wayfair claims to sell more than 14 million different products on its 5 websites. Furniture is sourced from thousands of different manufacturers.

Many of these products are sold under the manufacturers’ brand names.

Wayfair also has 80 different house brands which combine products from multiple manufacturers under common themes.

Wayfair’s wide range of furniture products covers all price ranges and qualities.

The vast majority of Wayfair’s sales are at the low to mid-range price levels.

The average Wayfair furniture sale is approximately $650.

That compares with all Wayfair sales which average approximately $250.

Wayfair offers thousands of higher end furniture items.

A couple of dozen different sofas are priced at $10,000+.

Although a large selection of expensive items are offered, Wayfair sells very few high end, top quality furniture items.

Since Wayfair is an online retailer, many shoppers assume that all of its furniture is shipped unassembled.

Actually, most of the furniture offered is fully assembled at the factory and shipped directly to the customer’s home.

Some pieces are RTA (Ready to Assemble) and are designed to ship unassembled. Assembly is done by the customer after the furniture has arrived.

Wayfair’s product description will let you know which is which. It will also let you know whether the delivery charges include assembly.

Over the past 15 years, Wayfair has grown from a tiny website to one of the world’s largest furniture retailers.

The company grew especially fast during the Pandemic, but has slowed down in 2022.
