West Elm basically sells modern furniture that appeals to customers based on style and price. Construction quality, durability and customer service seem to be low on their list of priorities. Most of their furniture is imported.
You should do a Google check for independent reviews and complaints before purchasing any expensive consumer item.
Here are a few independent review sites for West Elm:
Yelp (Yelp does local reviews. This sample is for a randomly selected West Elm store. You should be able to check Yelp for your local store.)
Watch out for company owned review sites. They have the option to remove or edit unfavorable comments. West Elm also has a lot of paid reviews and blog articles. (The reviewer is paid either a flat fee or a commission based on how many website views originate with their article.)
