What is Your Opinion of Thayer Coggin?

What is your opinion Thayer Coggin & its Viceroy recliner?

I’ve been doing a lot of research about recliners recently.

Your information has been especially insightful.

But I haven’t seen anything about the quality and construction of Thayer Coggin’s recliners.

I haven’t heard of this brand before.

Do you know anything about them?

Answer:

Thayer Coggin has been building very high quality, handcrafted furniture for over 70 years.

The company is located in High Point, North Carolina.

Thayer Coggin is especially known for its collaboration with Milo Baughman, one of the most famous of the Mid-Century Modern furniture designers.

The Viceroy recliner was originally designed by Milo Baugman in 1965.

At that time, it was considered a technological and design masterpiece.

The mechanism is relatively simple by today’s standard.

Its handle-free three position mechanism goes from upright to full recline with gentle pressure on the arms.

The beautifully carved, solid walnut arms and frame is considered a classic of the Scandinavian influenced mid-century modern furniture design that Milo Baughman was known for.

Thayer Coggin’s Viceroy recliner is considered a classic example of a beautiful, simple, and functional design.

My parents purchased a leather Thayer Coggin Viceroy recliner in the 1960s.

It was in the home, and heavily used, during the years when I was growing up.

When my mother eventually moved to a retirement community, the Thayer Coggin recliner went with her.

It remained very comfortable and worked smoothly for about 50 years.
